It's official. The petition that declares me a candidate for a Board of Education seat has been submitted. As of yesterday morning.
When I brought the papers into the board administrative offices my palms were damp, my stomach jittery and my fingers shaking. Holy Smokes, I was nervous. As I stood standing in the reception area, waiting as the very nice woman reviewed my signed petition for any mistakes and verified the notary public seals, I wondered for the bazillionth time what the hell am I doing.
And then I looked at my daughter standing next to me. Oh yeah, that is why.
That realization, while calming my brain, did absolutely nothing to settle the stomach jitters.
