Goodnight, Opus

Opus has gone for a long nap and while he deserves it very much, not being able to check on my flightless friend every Sunday morning will certainly take some of the sparkle from my day. The shared journeys of Opus, Bill, Captain John, Steve, Milo, Binkley are all treasued memories.
I've been a follower of Opus and the Bloom County gang from the first moment I read it, back in the mid-80's. I've read and collected every Bloom County compilation and the children's books that Berkeley Breathed has authored and illustrated. I'm a big fan of Edward Fudwupper Fibbed Big. It's possible my affection for the movie Secondhand Lions is due to the opening sequence images.
There's a stuffed Opus, offering his advice on the absurdities of the day, perched on a shelf in my office. He's accompanied me in all office moves and personal moves and wears the years a little less bright and certainly more dusty than when he first arrived. My "Ahead Warp Zillion" T-shirt is soft and tattered but still goes great with jeans and even when it's just shreds, it will still be cozily tucked into my dresser drawer for safe keeping.
I hope he's dreaming of sitting in a field of periwinkle, nekid.
