why the postman should always ring twice

The pile of crap mail taking up most of the kitchen table space finally got my attention while I was home sick Monday with the sinus infection from hell that will not go away. You know what I think will add revenue to the Postal coffers? Increase the rates for junk mail by 40% and the postal service will be solvent. Or companies will finally stop sending out the equivalent of a small forest every day in mail that NOBODY WANTS or reads.

There were a few gems that I found among the dirt though.

An insurance check for storm damage that was waaay overdue. Just the day before we had called four different people at the insurance company and complained with some acrimony that the check they swore they were going to send had yet to arrive. They weren't lying when they told us the check was in the mail after all.

The rebate check from Behr paints that I bought THREE months ago. Last week I called the Home Depot rebate center asking why it hadn't arrived yet. They weren't lying either.

A Famous Footwear reward gift card that was just a pleasant bonus and a nice thanks from them for spending a small fortune keeping up with my kid's growing feet.

The moral here is I really should pay more attention to the mail brought into the house.
