Ace has always been a nail biter, a nervous energy, and worried nail biter. We've been trying to get him to stop for fucking ever.
He doesn't even realize that he does it. One day he's ready for them to be clipped, the next they are chewed down and he has no idea how or why. It drives us all nuts.
Sometimes we tie X-Box time to his having nail length to cut in an effort to curb his nail biting. It doesn't always work and I get tired of adding these punishments, but can't seem to find a reasonable way to get him to stop doing it.
I sympathize, I really do. I am a nervous cuticle picker-at-er, sometimes i make my cuticles bleed, I pick at them so much. I'm getting a little better, but holy fucknuts, I'm 42 and it's taken me this long and I would hate for it to take him that long as well.
Any idea's from the smarter people that traverse the Internet? Because we are now at a complete loss as to what to do that will convince him to be more attentive to his nail biting and stop doing it.
Seriously, people, I'm desperate.

I am REALLY not trying to be bitchy here but I am wondering why this is such an issue for you? His nails, right? I just say this because I was and am a terrible nail biter and my parents did all sorts of things trying to make me quit, and really, the "punishments" just made me MORE anxious, which in turn caused me to, yep, bite them more. And I never have been able to figure out why it was that big a deal.
Kori, You're not bitchy. I like hearing viewpoints.
I guess it's a health issue. He's a boy, whose hands are dirty most of the time and one who would forget to wash them before shoving his fingers in his mouth. Which, eeeewww.
I know that it gets to be a round robin cycle of anxiety and I don't disagree with you either. So I'm trying to find other ways that do not include punishments, which I'm not a fan of either. Thanks for the personal point of view, it does help.
