Finding My Religion

** WARNING: Much of this post may piss of those religiously inclined. If you are sensitive about that topic, go elsewhere.

I’ve finally found the purpose of organized religion. Hallelujah!!!!

And it is to prevent the over immunization of my kids.

It appears my right, as a parent, is worthless when it comes to whether I want my kid to be injected with chemicals.

So sayeth the State of NJ Public Health Council.

“Objections to vaccination based on grounds which are not medical or religious in nature and which are of a philosophical, moral, secular, or more general nature continue to be unacceptable.”

When I called the local legislative office and expressed my displeasure over the mandate, the very nice person on the other end of the phone quickly assured me that if I was a member of a religious organization I could be exempt from this mandated immunization nonsense.

It appears, should I choose, that I can provide a “statement signed by the parent or guardian upon the grounds that the proposed immunization interferes with the free exercise of the pupil’s religious rights.”

Don’t ask me about my religion or I shall smite thee:
“When a parent or guardian submits their written religious exemption to immunization, which contains some religious reference, those persons charged with implementing administrative rules at N.J.A.C. 8:57 – 4.4, should not question whether the parent’s professed religious statement or stated belief is reasonable, acceptable, sincere and bona fide. In practice, if the written statement contains the word “religion” or “religious” or some reference thereto, then the statement should be accepted and the religious exemption of mandatory immunization(s) granted.”

This religious exemption “does not mandate specificity as to membership in a recognized church or religious denomination.”

Look, I don't give a pig fart if someone bows to the alter of a squirrel pecker or from a church pew. It’s your individual right to love it or leave it, in whichever form you choose. What gets my panties in a royal twist is the preferential treatment religion, or those that profess to be religious, are availed of in various ways. Just like this whole immunization issue. Perhaps it's the mysterious ways of God. What the fuck do I know, I think the earth is a creature wonderous and sacred and find the whole worshiping some damn saint's finger bone most absurd. But again, love it or leave the way you choose.

Why should any religious affiliation outweigh my right as a parent to exempt my child from an immunization that I don’t believe she should have? Has God handed down some edict that says Thou Shalt Not Immunize? If so, pass the plate, here's my donation.

When did the world get so unbelievably fucked up that this topic exists to give me such a blood boiler concerning my decision to say yes or no to some chemical compound being shot into my kid?

I pray at the alter of Parental Rights. That’s my fucking religion.
