When sperm swims

Ace is at that age where Health class is now co-ed and the topic is sexual reproduction and all its assorted off shoots. They started with the girls anatomy and it's pretty funny hearing words like fallopian tubes and ovaries vocalized from my 13 year olds mouth. Mostly I enjoy watching his ears turn pink when he says them.

When I used Va-jay-jay in conversation the other night, he practically convulsed from his humor & embarrassment at hearing me say that out loud. But at least we have open conversations and use real words to describe real things. I believes it is very important to know how to comfortably discuss this topic with my kid's and be factual, open and unhesitant to speak about sex. I'd rather they have the facts and so there is practically a small library in our house on body topics, so we can hit the books, literally, when questions crop up. It works for us.

He shared a few funny comments he passed in his health class over the past few days that I feel compelled to share.

When the teacher discussed sperm health and indicated that some sperm swim faster than others, he asked that if some sperm does swim faster than others, would Michael Phelps' sperm be faster than anyone elses?

Last week the topic was sexually transmitted diseases. So Ace decided to blurt out this little gem he picked up from a recently viewed episode of Band of Brothers:
"Remember boys, flies spread disease. So keep yours closed."

How I don't get more phone calls from his school never fails to amaze me.
