After that discovery Giggles really wanted to feed them the next morning, almost before I had coffee to clear the It's Vacation, why aren't you sleeping late grumbling from my tongue. But she was patient as I recharged my brain and only asked if we could GO FEED THE DUCKS NOW about 50 times. We grabbed a handful of bread slices and headed over to the pond. I forgot how much fun it was to stand near the edge of the water and toss bread to some birds. Giggles had a blast and made certain that all the ducks got an equal share of the dough. She got quite irate with one of the ducks that kept snipping at the others in an attempt to hog the unexpected munchies. She would throw a piece of bread out to the cranky one and then lure the others off to the other side by tossing more in a different direction. It didn't take long for the brave one to separate from the herd.

There were a few greedy ones as well in the pack.

What we didn't anticipate was the other guests that felt they too deserved their share of the breakfast buffet. When I saw this creature slide so stealthily into the surface water, I almost dropped the camera and was so happy that my perpetual clumsiness meant that the camera strap is always around my neck. It just slid right out of all the underwater grasses and started gobbling up bread pieces.

And then he brought some friends.
