One would think that if 3 recent nominees to cabinet posts were found to owe back taxes, the IRS would sit up and tax notice. Not to mention President Obama. Now, I know he has plenty of important issues on his mind, but just stick with me here for a moment.
3 top cabinet picks owed back taxes.
The first thing that comes to mind is why in hell this wasn't dealt with before they were nominated? Let's not keep getting surprised by this crap. Seriously. We should be better at this by now, since it keeps happening.
Given the current economic situation and federal budget woes, isn't this like apple picking at harvest time for the IRS, if they started to audit all government employees? You know, the ones that make up our tax laws and tell us how paying taxes is our way of helping the government pay for the services that support our country, or the random clusterfuck war and banking bailout. If someone in the IRS is not paying close attention to this and panting over the possible score of millions of dollars owed to the government coffers that person needs to be audited themselves or get their ass hauled out of that position for gross stupidity.
Instead of focusing on some poor schmo, who's brain twisted into tight feverish knots, trying to understand the latest tax booklet and forgot to fill in line 14c on some obscure schedule f7631 form, the pool of audit candidates just increased by thousands. This poor sap's error would beget an immediate audit, causing no small amount of fear and heartburn, not to mention an outrageous fine for a $2.48 error. Unlike Mr. Daschle's $128,000. I know the tax codes are confusing and there might actually be more forms than there are lobbyists in DC, but I expect better from people like Mr. Daschle.
Wouldn't this be a great start to some of that new accountability President Obama has been talking about? Hopefully someone in his erstwhile gaggle of geniuses notices the recent pattern of tax evaders and the lightbulb shines bright. I know if I had some authority, there would be a shitstorm of hyped-out tax auditors pouring through the tax documents of EVERY senator, congressman, representative and so on down the line 24/7 for as long as it took. The possibilities are staggering in how much money could be recovered. If the government employees don't follow the same damn laws they are responsible for implementing, then why the hell should the rest of the populace give a rat's turd for those same laws. Oh, wait, I remember, because those same lawmakers have not been held to the same standards for so many years, they have forgotten they exist.
I think I need to go reread schedule f7631. Just in case.
